The cinematography in “The Shining” is used to make the audience feel uncomfortable and claustrophobic. Symmetry and patterns are constantly used, from the twins, the corridors, even the bedroom.
The colours are also really bold in the corridors. There are a lot of POV shots, specifically when Danny is alone and in the corridors, and when Jack and Wendy are shouting at each other. Jack also talks to the camera at one point.
The shots are very long, and can be focused on an individuals face for a long space of time. Also when Dick is being axed there are quick cut aways to a close up of Dannys face.
